Cadillac
is located in the northern part of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, near Traverse City. Called the "City on the Lakes," it sits on the edge of Lake Cadillac and is near Lake Mitchell and Pleasant Lake. The town is also at the hub of a huge, outstanding snowmobile trail system that has easy cross-state connections. Skiing is also a popular sport in the wintertime at nearby Caberfae Peaks, which is just twelve miles west of Cadillac. Summertime activities are numerous and diverse, with boating and fishing, golf, hiking, picnicking and biking being just a few of the things to enjoy. In the heart of town, a scenic walkway bordered by picturesque gaslights meanders along the shores of Lake Cadillac. A seven-mile bike path also surrounds the lake. Other attractions include taking a historic walking tour of the town and visiting City Park with its' 1800s Shay Locomotive on display. Other points of interest near Cadillac include the Caberfae Scenic Overlook, Johnny's Fish and Game Park, The White Pine State Trail Park, and The Waterfall near the Manistee River, west of Harrietta. The town of Cadillac is also home to many festivals throughout the year, including the North American Snowmobile Festival, usually held the first weekend in February.

Four distinct seasons with a lake effect that is quite strong during much of the year describes the climate of the northern region of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. The lake effect increases cloudiness and snowfall during late fall and winter, and also modifies the temperatures - keeping them cooler in the summer. Northwest Michigan sees a lot of moisture throughout the year in the form of showers and thunderstorms during the summer and snow and ice during the winter. In winter, the humidity from the lake condenses as snow when it reaches land, creating quite heavy snowfalls in some areas. During the winter, the temperature of the lakes continues to drop, and ice sometimes covers portions of the lakes. Summers are warm, but periods of extreme heat and humidity are infrequent.
