Curtis
is in the heart of the "Lakes of the Northwoods" region of northern Michigan, known as the area "Where Every Season Has a Reason." The Manistique Lakes area is the largest inland lakes area in the Upper Peninsula, and the town of Curtis is the hub of the region. Located off State Highway 77, Curtis is a waterfront village surrounded by the Manistique Lakes and is a popular destination for anglers. This beautiful region of the state has been a favorite among tourists for almost a century. Over thirty resorts and campgrounds are located here, and fishing for Northern Pike, Lake Trout, Walleye, Yellow Perch and other fish can be found in Big Manistique, North Manistique, South Manistique and Milakokia Lakes. Curtis is also well known for its great snowmobiling opportunities. Over 90 miles of groomed trails in the area connect to the 2,500 miles of snowmobile trails in the Upper Peninsula. Hundreds of miles of country roads are also open to snowmobilers on the plowed shoulders. In fact, "Snow Goer" magazine named the Upper Peninsula of Michigan the number one area in the country for snowmobile trail riding. Other recreational sports in Curtis include cross-country skiing, sledding, ice fishing, swimming, boating, water skiing, canoeing, hiking, biking and camping. The village of Curtis is approximately 65 miles west of the Mackinac Bridge, making it a convenient place to explore the whole Upper Peninsula area.

Curtis Weather & Climate

Michigan's Upper Peninsula enjoys moderate summers and cold winters. For decades, visitors have been coming to this area to escape the summer heat and enjoy the cooling effect of the lake breezes. The Lakes affect all areas of the weather, and summers tend to be sunny as the cool water of the Lakes chill the air near the earth's surface, producing a stable atmosphere. In winter, the area becomes a wonderland of ice and snow, with an average of between 40-70 inches of snow, depending on location. Rainfall in upper Michigan is generally around 30 inches per year, with occasional thunderstorms in spring and summer. Autumn is sunny with mild days and cool nights - too cold for swimming, but just right for other activities such as fall color tours, antiquing, golfing, and exploring the lake-studded countryside.
