Lexington
is located in the central region of Michigan along the shores of Lake Huron. With a rich historical background, Lexington was established in the 1830s and was the first settlement on the shore of Lake Huron north of Port Huron. Today it is still a charming colonial village with a 116-year-old general store. Boating has always been an important part of Lexington. Three permanent docks were built in 1870, and it became a bustling little town as lumber, agricultural products and fruit were being shipped. A storm destroyed the docks in 1913 and eventually the population of the town began to dwindle. Tourism is important to Lexington and it offers some of the best fishing on Lake Huron. The Harbor of Refuge in town has a natural limestone seawall and is considered one of the most beautiful in Michigan. Lexington is also home to a lovely golf resort that offers two 18-hole, 72-par courses. There are abundant other recreational opportunities in or near Lexington, including numerous boat charters, hiking, camping, wildlife viewing, biking, and skiing in winter. You will find village shops and restaurants and free live music on Friday evenings in the park in Lexington during the months of July and August. The local 4th of July celebration is also a very popular event.

Lexington Weather & Climate
Central Michigan, along the shores of Lake Huron, experiences four seasons with warm summers and cold winters. The Great Lakes help cool the hot days of summer and warm the cold winds of winter, giving Michigan a milder climate than some of the other Midwestern and north central states. Summer precipitation comes in the form of showers and thunderstorms. Tornadoes are not that common because Michigan is on the fringe of the Midwest tornado belt, and sees less of this activity than other parts of the country, in part due to the cold water of the surrounding lakes during the spring and summer months. The Great Lakes also act as a giant "heat sink," and is a natural humidifier, and this causes an increase in the moisture content in the air in winter, creating heavier snowfalls in some areas.
