Suttons-Bay
is located along Highway 22 on the east side of the Leelanau Peninsula near Grand Traverse Bay and Lake Leelanau. This lovely little town has become a tourist community and is well known for hosting the Classic Boat Show each June, and for its annual Jazz Fest, usually held the last weekend in July. Suttons Bay has a nice marina with beautiful views of the Bay, art galleries and antiques, unique specialty shops and restaurants along its main street of town. And what many don't realize is that Suttons Bay and the surrounding peninsula is home to eleven fine wineries and tasting rooms. The Leelanau Peninsula Vintners welcomes visitors to their region to tour the largest number of premium wineries in Michigan. You will also find golf in Suttons Bay, horseback riding, miles of trails for hiking and biking, and sledding and skiing in the wintertime. And, for even more excitement, visit the Leelanau Sands Casino which is located on Bayshore Drive and offers Vegas type gaming. Suttons Bay is also just minutes from the other Bay cities of Northport, Leland and Traverse City.

Suttons Bay Weather & Climate

The lake effect is quite strong on the northwest area of Lower Michigan near the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. This area has a distinct four-season climate, although Lake Michigan helps modify temperatures, keeping them cooler in late spring and early summer, and warmer during late fall and winter. Showers and thunderstorms are common in spring and summer, and precipitation is generally evenly distributed during the crop season of April through September, receiving an average of 17.45 inches of rain during that time. The lake also acts as a giant humidifier, increasing moisture content in the air throughout the year. However, extremely hot and humid summer days are not that common and don't last long in this part of the state. Snowfall varies greatly from season to season.
