Caseville
is a small town with a population of approximately 2,100 residents, located on Saginaw Bay at the mouth of the Pigeon River in the eastern part of the state. Michigan's Lower Peninsula is shaped like a person's left hand (or mitten,) and Caseville is situated in the upper "Thumb" region of the "hand," along Lake Huron. It's an old town, settled in 1836, and originally known as Port Elizabeth. The town's early industries were shipbuilding, salt manufacturing and lumbering. Caseville is home to miles of sandy beaches and gorgeous sunsets, abundant woodlands, rivers and streams. It has a marina, several quaint shops and restaurants and comfortable lodging. Caseville is known for its' excellent fishing and boating on Saginaw Bay, and has a county park that offers beach sites and camping. There are also two village parks located in Caseville that include playground equipment, tennis courts, horseshoes, a baseball field and restrooms. Ice-skating is also available inside the parks in wintertime. Other attractions include a giant water-slide, go-carts and putt-putt golf. The village of Caseville can be reached via Highway 25 northeast of Bay City. It makes a quiet, small-town vacation site, along with being centrally located near many of Lower Michigan's main tourist attractions.

Caseville Weather & Climate

The Northeastern portion of Michigan's Lower Peninsula has a climate that is directly affected by the prevailing westerly winds which are modified according to the temperature and moisture content in the air as they pass over Lake Michigan. During the winter, cloud cover produced by this "lake effect" prevents the loss of heat; therefore the temperatures for this part of Michigan is somewhat warmer than would otherwise occur at this latitude. Likewise, winds moving over the waters of the Lakes in summer keeps it cooler. Average temperatures are generally warmer along the shoreline of Lake Huron for two reasons; the vast inland forests provide insulation during the summer and the Lake serves as a heat source in the winter along the shore. Rain is heaviest in northeastern Michigan during the growing season of April through September. Snowfall has wide variations from winter to winter.
