Harrison
is located in Clare County in Michigan's Lower Peninsula, and sits along the banks of the North Branch of the Tobacco River near the Wilson State Park. It is supported mainly through tourism and makes a good central base for an "up north" Michigan vacation. Wilson State Park sits on Budd Lake, a 175-acre lake with great fishing for bass, panfish, perch, walleye and muskalonge. Other activities such as swimming, water-skiing, tubing, hiking, golf and camping are popular. Spend some time sightseeing - the famous Mackinaw Bridge ("Big Mac") and Mackinaw Island are approximately two hours away. Two or three hours takes you to other Great Lakes attractions such as the Soo Locks, the Saginaw Bay Area, the antique shopping in Bay City and the famous American-German tourist town of Frankenmuth. Also, Harrison is a four season recreational area; you have the colors and small town festivals of autumn, and great downhill snow skiing in winter at Snow Snake and a little further north at Crystal Mountains, Boyne Mountain, Caberfae and Treetops. Harrison also puts on a great 4th of July celebration with a flea market across from Wilson State Park, a parade, demolition derby and a fantastic fireworks display.

Four distinct seasons with a lake effect that is quite strong during much of the year describes the climate of the northern region of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. The lake effect increases cloudiness during late fall and winter, and also modifies the temperatures - keeping them cooler in the summer. Michigan sees a lot of moisture throughout the year. In winter, the humidity from the lake condenses as snow when it reaches land, creating quite heavy snowfalls in some areas. Also, during the winter, the temperature continues to drop, and ice sometimes covers portions of the lakes. Summers are warm, but periods of extreme heat and humidity are infrequent. Showers and thunderstorms are common in the spring and summer and early fall is often the driest, sunniest time of the year in Michigan.
