North-Muskegon
is nestled on the shores of Lake Michigan, on the north side of Muskegon Lake in the southwest region of the state. The town of North Muskegon includes a small peninsula that juts out into the lake, forming Bear Lake to the north. It is mostly a quiet, picturesque residential community, but the greater Muskegon area surrounds it, which is one of West Michigan's most popular tourist locations. Many state parks in the Muskegon area offer swimming, beachcombing, hiking, biking, horseback riding and camping. The city of Muskegon, which lies just across the lake from North Muskegon offers romantic horse-drawn carriage rides to and from the downtown marinas, shops, restaurants and convention center. Points of interest near North Muskegon include the Hackley and Hume Historic Site, the Muskegon Museum of Art, The Frauenthal Theater and Great Lakes Downs, which is the Muskegon area's thoroughbred racetrack. A well-known amusement and water park is also located in the North Muskegon area that features Michigan's biggest wooden roller coaster. An exciting winter sports complex located across Lake Michigan includes ski trails, skating rinks and one of only three luge tracks in the country.

West-Southwest Michigan on the Lower Peninsula has four seasons where summers are warm with cool nights and winters are cold with snow. Lake Michigan helps modify temperatures, keeping them cooler in late spring and early summer and warmer during late fall and winter than in other parts of the Midwest. Showers and thunderstorms are common in spring and summer, and precipitation is generally evenly distributed during the crop season of April through September. The lake also acts as a giant humidifier, increasing moisture content in the air throughout the year. However, extremely hot and humid summer days are not that common and don't last long in this part of the state. Snowfall varies greatly from winter to winter.
