Port-Sanilac
is located in the central "thumb" region of Michigan's Lower Peninsula, situated along the shore of Lake Huron. This is a sparsely populated area of the state that draws most of its' visitors in the summertime, yet it's only a two hour drive from the metro Detroit area. Port Sanilac is a picturesque waterfront village with a modern harbor, pretty beaches and historic shipwrecks. Scuba divers come here to enjoy The Sanilac County Underwater Preserve, which has shipwrecks dating as far back as 1864. Strolling the harbor and watching the sailboats glide in and out of the harbor is an enjoyable way to spend a summer afternoon in Port Sanilac, or you can take a self-guided walking tour of the more than 40 historic buildings and Victorian mansions in the village. There are also numerous antique and gift shops in Lake Sanilac. Other recreational activities consist of fishing for walleye, boating, sailing, swimming, hiking, biking and golf. Points of special interest in the town of Port Sanilac include the County Historical Museum and Village, the Port Sanilac Lighthouse and The Barn Theater. Several special events are held throughout the year, including regular "Strawberry Socials" and an annual Summer Festival and a Craft Fair on the museum grounds. If visiting during July, be sure to stay for Port Sanilac's Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks at the Harbor Park.

Port Sanilac Weather & Climate
Central Michigan, along the shores of Lake Huron, experiences four seasons with warm summers and cold winters. The Great Lakes help cool the hot days of summer and warm the cold winds of winter, giving Michigan a milder climate than some of the other Midwestern and north central states. Summer precipitation comes in the form of showers and thunderstorms. Tornadoes are not that common because Michigan is on the fringe of the Midwest tornado belt, and sees less of this activity than other parts of the country, in part due to the cold water of the surrounding lakes during the spring and summer months. The Great Lakes also act as a giant "heat sink," and is a natural humidifier, and this causes an increase in the moisture content in the air in winter, creating heavier snowfalls in some areas.
